Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) is a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) technique that uses low-frequency sound vibrations to promote relaxation, reduce pain, and improve overall well-being.
VAT involves delivering sound vibrations through transducers or speakers that are placed on or near the body. These vibrations penetrate the tissues and stimulate physiological responses, such as:
Muscle relaxation, Pain reduction, Stress reduction, Improved sleep, and Increased circulation for those interested in learning more about Reiki and becoming certified practitioners.
This form of therapy relies on the body's sensitivity to mechanical vibrations. By stimulating vibratory perception through therapeutic sound waves, vibroacoustic therapy aims to promote physical and emotional well-being. Another proposed mechanism of action for vibroacoustic therapy is brainwave entrainment.
The Food and Drug Administration has approved vibroacoustic therapy for increasing circulation, pain relief, and increasing mobility.
Contraindications to vibroacoustic therapy include extremely high blood pressure, gastric ulcers, acute inflammation, pacemaker and cardiac arrhythmias, risk of thrombosis, kidney and bladder stones and sand, gallstones, and pregnancy.
